Devlog 3 Creating an actual level
/edit
For this experience i wanted to player to feel calm and relaxed, for this I used lots of soft sounds and cool lights. i also wanted to tap into nostalgia by using the Frutiger aero style. however, i am not sure how many would be nostalgic for this, so I set calm as my goal instead. i included a lot of interactable elements to the sound scape so that the player themselves would affect the ambience. i tried to tune most of the sounds to C or D so that they would complement each other.
I also modeled the entire environment to be round and have lots of curves, I tried to limit the number of hard edges, i just want it to feel welcoming and novel. I also added coins to help guide and give the player something to do.
I hope the player will say that it was novel and or relaxing.
added 2 custom environment maps, one rendered in blender and the other digitally painted.
Created quite a few new blueprints. most are children of bp_element so that everything can easily be reset and triggered by one another.
3d modeled the entire level in blender, along with the new puzzle elements.
Play testing.
in class we had other people play out game here are some things I have noted.
Players found the level satisfying and cool visually. they weren't able to hear the audio because of the classroom setting we tested in. so I am not sure if they felt calm.
Make the puzzle reset when the player falls to the ground so that the blue ball is ready to go when they retry.
Make the secret more secret? having the coins on that platform make the player go that direction,
Add a coin counter.
obvious what the green ball is doing.
Increase range for the ball acceptance?
Better signposting for the final puzzle, makes sure the player looks at the stuff moving.
Make the blue ball dispenser look different from the blue receiver?
make the audio louder.
Make players want to push the red ball. at the beginning? they always figure it out tough.
make one of the red balls green or yellow, so that player solves the puzzle in a faster order, (the order does not matter but can be more satisfying with how the balls roll through the level geometry).
